Qemisoyl™ is a long lasting, easy-to-use, water-absorbing soil additive. It was specially designed to reduce frequent irrigation and water waste in Crops, gardens, house-plants, and landscaping.
Qemisoyl’s™ water-holding
capacity offers a stable growing environment which allows for faster and
healthier plant growth and ultimately leads to reduction in plant
mortality.
Qemisoyl's™ unique absorbing characteristic allows each granule to expand
and absorb up to 500 times its weight in water, depending on the quality
of water. Then by acting as a
reservoir of water, Qemisoyl™
allows for 95-99% of the water stored to be available for the plants roots
to draw upon as needed, thus ensuring stable conditions for healthy plant
growth. (The pressure gradient exerted by a plant’s root system is quite
sufficient to withdraw its water.)
Unlike most substances that hydrate, Qemisoyl's™ hydration is fully reversible once all the water is withdrawn, the particle can return to its original size, ready to be filled again. Qemisoyl™ can be filled and emptied many times.
Qemisoyl™ usually lasts 4-7
years in the soil as it begins losing its efficiency in the
range of 7-10% per year.
FEATURES
1.
Benefits to the Soil
Not
all soils have adequate cationic exchange capacity (C.E.C.- the soil's
ability to hold and contain nutrients and moisture, requiring the use of
soil amendments). Moisture and precipitation move through most soils very
quickly, carrying the nutrients deep into the ground and potentially into
the subsurface ground water.
By
incorporating Qemisoyl™ into
the soil, the conditions of the soil structure and water retention will
improve by loosening the soil, reducing leaching and increasing both the
nutrient and water supply to the roots. There are essentially two types of soils: A. Coarse soils
- (sand, gravel) have a very low C.E.C. and therefore have almost no
ability to retain moisture and nutrients. This deficit situation allows the
water and nutrients to move past the plants so quickly that the plants are
unable to capture them. In this case, Qemisoyl™ helps to agglomerate
the sandy soils, preventing loss of water into the soil and making more
water available for the plant roots. B.
Heavy soils - (silt, clay) allow a better water
retention (they can retain up to 75% of water), making them very compact,
thus leading to poor drainage. In
this case, Qemisoyl™ particles
swell up to absorb water, they open up the structure of the soil, leading
to better aeration of the root system and/or reducing soil compaction
which allows for better drainage. 2.
Minimizing
Effects of Percolation and
Evaporation With
the use of Qemisoyl™, water
requirements can be minimized due to reduction of water losses from
percolation and evaporation.
The interval between irrigations can be doubled, tripled or more.
In addition, the improved water storage in the soil will protect the plant
against hydric stress. This is particularly relevant in areas where
agriculture is marginal due to infrequent rainfall. PRODUCTS AVAILABLE Qemisoyl™
A -
Large particle, very coarse Qemisoyl™
B -
Medium particle Qemisoyl™
C -
Small (powder) The coarser the particle, the slower and lower the absorption rate. Therefore, in a coarse soil with a fast water infiltration, it is important to select a fast absorbing material such as Qemisoyl™ B or C. Qemisoyl™ A is better suited for fine textured soils in order to allow a good
soil aeration and water retention. Qemisoyl™
C is a micronized form used
for specific applications, mainly root deeping applications. All
types of Qemisoyl™ will reach
water saturation within about 3 hours. As it absorbs water, the product
transforms itself into chunks of a clear crystalline gel that won't spill
or leak. Each chunk
measuring about 1/2 inch / 1 cm in diameter. Preparation
-
In general the gel should be prepared as follows: 1
oz of Qemisoyl™ to 2.6 gallons
of water Or
30
g of Qemisoyl™ to 10 liters of
water. For
a softer gel, add 25% more water.
In order to establish the maximum absorption capacity, place a
known weight of Qemisoyl into a known volume of water and leave
overnight. Measure the
remaining water and calculate the absorption per gram. GENERAL
PERFORMANCE
Qemisoyl™
can be applied as a hydrated gel or dry. Dry granules are generally easier
to use, but care must be taken to water the granules enough to fully fill
them with water, and to allow 15-50% swelling
room in each planting hole or flowerpot. 1.
Dry Application
For
large quantities of potting soil or backfill around trees and shrubs, and
under grass, we recommend the use of the Qemisoyl™ in dry form. Recommended
Dosage
: 2
lbs of Qemisoyl™ A or B per cubic yard of soil
or 1.2
kgs Qemisoyl™ A or B per cubic meter of soil
For
small quantities of potting soil: 1⁄2
tsp. of Qemisoyl™ B per quart of soil = 1 oz per 60
lbs of soil Or 1
gram of Qemisoyl™ B per 1 kg of soil. Do
not overdose! Always spread Qemisoyl™ evenly through the
soil. 2.
Hydrated Application
Qemisoyl™
in
hydrated form, works best for small applications such as repotting house-
plants, planting bedding plants, and planting small trees and shrubs: 1/2
teaspoon dry granules absorbs approx. 1-2 cups water
Note:
1 lb. (21⁄2 cups) absorbs approx. 20-35 gallons water = 1 kg absorbs
approx. 200 liters of water Recommended Dosage:
Many
tests with flowers and other plants have shown that the ideal mix for
optimum growth ranges from: one
part hydrated Qemisoyl™ mixed
with 9 parts soil (10% hydrated polymer) up to one part hydrated Qemisoyl™ mixed with 4 parts soil (20%
hydrated polymer). (This 20% maximum corresponds to approximately 40 lbs./
1000 ft = 18kg / 90 m for each 6 inches/15 cm of soil depth).
